President - Jeff McMillin
I was born in Kilgore, Texas and raised in LaPorte. After teaching school in my early career, I entered the field of law enforcement. It has been my professional career from where I retired twice, the last time from Harris County after more than forty years of public service.
I live in Houston but own 43 acres in Robertson County, Texas where I first experienced bees up close when a swarm shook off into the bed of my truck. I joined the Harris County Beekeepers Association while assisting my granddaughter in her science class as she was being home schooled. I now have hives at my son’s place in Rosharon, several hives at my farm and I often bring swarms home to the near east end of downtown Houston. I am currently an apprentice level beekeeper in the Master Beekeeper program. I have been keeping bees for about five years and strive each day to learn more about these magnificent creatures, the honey bee.
I am humbled to have been offered the position of President of the HCBA. My goal is to expand the knowledge of beekeeping in the public sector, support beekeepers in the area and to assist members, especially the youth to carry the knowledge on to the next generation.
